Whenever i'm on facebook, i just loved to play along the chat box, something like opening chat list and then clicking on empty space, letting minimize the chat list. Now, with the new chat list, its getting difficult to chat, hiding the chat list as well as finding online friends are the biggest troubles.
A facebook page titled I hate the new facebook sidebar chat received more than 20,400 likes at the time of this post, along with comments ranging from humor to threats.
Facebook introduced video chat, and announced lot more new features to expect in upcoming days. however, in return millions of user received a LOSER new chat sidebar!!!
So, these are some ways to overcome the problems with new facebook chat.
Browser based chat client:
eBuddy
Its an online messenger for MSN, Yahoo, Gtalk, Facebook, ICQ, MySpace and AIM (AOL). The advantage with eBuddy is its optimized for web and mobiles, available on Android market, iPhone, J2ME platform and OVI store. IMO
imo.im is a web-based multi-network instant messaging service. It lets users chat on AIM, Facebook Chat, Google Talk, Jabber, MSN, MySpace, Skype, and Yahoo.
The USP of imo is the latest feature, the cross-platform group chat service (currently in alpha version) allows you to create groups and chat with friends who are also logged into imo.

Desktop clients:
Currently many desktop chat clients are available, I would recommend using Digsby.
Digsby has the advantage of integrating a series of chat networks, as well as introducing a pretty excellent email integration that allows you to delete and reply right from your desktop.
With Digsby you can always stay updated with fb wall, tweets, LinkedIn updates as well as mails. Digsby prides itself on updating your ‘global’ status across all your networks and having an excellent layout. Facebook news feeds appear right on your desktop and are easily browsable, and the chat integration is seamless.
Try Digsby here.
At the end, if you don't wish to have any trouble of installation or use of any other client, to keep it simple the following URL works like a charm. Gives you the old fb chat look and performance.

(Currently the BEST solution to new sidebar chat)
These days, the line between desktop application and web application has blurred, and I thought I’d let you in on this little secret. Create a bookmark to this address, then store it on your desktop, or on your start menu, and as long as you’re connected to the web, it will act like a standalone Facebook chat window. I find it useful for just logging in to chat with friends.
After everything, if you still find fb chat annoying, then better way to protest is to switch to Google+!!!!!!!!
